Checkpoint

Terms of service

Effective October 10, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Luke Salomone, who operates Checkpoint ("Checkpoint", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using Checkpoint, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Checkpoint. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your information and is part of these terms.

1. Who can use Checkpoint

You must be at least 18 years old and live in the United States. You may use Checkpoint for yourself and your household. You can add information about family members (for example, their medical claims) only if you have the right to manage that information for them.

2. Your account

Keep your password secret and your contact email current. You're responsible for activity under your account. Tell us right away at security@checkpointfinance.app if you think someone else has accessed it.

3. Checkpoint is a tool, not professional advice

Checkpoint helps you organize and understand your own information: budgets, income, contributions, projections, medical claims and HSA reimbursements. Its estimates, projections, tax figures, reimbursement suggestions and AI-generated summaries are for planning only and may be incomplete or wrong. Checkpoint does not provide financial, investment, tax, legal or medical advice, is not a fiduciary, and is not a bank, broker, insurer or health care provider. Check important decisions — such as tax filings, HSA withdrawals, or what you owe a provider — against your official documents, and consult a qualified professional where appropriate.

4. Your information

You keep all rights to the information and documents you add or connect ("your content"). You give us permission to store, process and display your content only as needed to provide Checkpoint to you, as described in the privacy policy. You can export or delete your content at any time from Settings → Your data. You're responsible for having the right to add the content you upload.

5. Connected services

You can choose to connect outside services, such as financial institutions through Plaid, or your health insurer through its official Patient Access API. Those connections happen only at your direction and you can disconnect them at any time. Each outside service is provided by its own company under its own terms and privacy notices; we aren't responsible for their availability, accuracy or practices. Information from them may be delayed, incomplete or corrected later by the source.

Insurer connections are subject to the insurer's rules — for example, some insurers require you to renew your permission periodically. Health information received from insurers is handled under the additional commitments in our privacy policy, including that we never sell it or send it to AI services.

6. AI features

AI features are optional and off by default. When you turn them on, information you choose is sent to our AI provider as described in the privacy policy. AI output can be wrong — always review what it extracts or suggests before saving it. You're responsible for what you save to your records.

7. Acceptable use

Don't misuse Checkpoint. That includes: accessing another person's account or data without permission; uploading malware or content you have no right to share; probing, scanning or testing our systems' security except through our responsible-disclosure process (see the security overview); overloading, scraping or reverse-engineering the service; or using Checkpoint to break the law or anyone's rights. We may suspend accounts that do.

8. Fees

Checkpoint is currently free. If we introduce paid plans, we'll tell you the price and terms in advance, and you won't be charged unless you choose a paid plan.

9. Changes to Checkpoint and these terms

We're continually improving Checkpoint and may add, change or remove features. If we change these terms in a material way, we'll update the date above and notify you in the app or by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continuing to use Checkpoint after that means you accept the new terms; if you don't, you can export your data and close your account.

10. Ending your use

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Your data. We may suspend or close an account that violates these terms or puts other users or the service at risk, and we'll tell you why unless the law or a security concern prevents it. If we ever discontinue Checkpoint, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice to export your data, as described in the privacy policy. Sections 3, 4 (your ownership), 11, 12, 13 and 14 survive after your account ends.

11. Disclaimers

Checkpoint is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't guarantee Checkpoint will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that information from connected services will be complete or current.

12. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, savings, data or opportunities, arising from your use of Checkpoint — including decisions you make based on its estimates. Our total liability for any claim relating to Checkpoint is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $50. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain of these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

13. Indemnity

If you misuse Checkpoint or break these terms and that results in a claim against us, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, please contact us at hello@checkpointfinance.app so we can try to resolve it informally within 60 days. Any dispute that isn't resolved will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Michigan, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction — except that either of us may bring an individual claim in small-claims court where it qualifies. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.

15. General

These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Checkpoint. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't waived it. You may not transfer these terms without our consent; we may transfer them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to the notice commitments in the privacy policy.
